Harlequins director of rugby Conor O'Shea admits his surprise at Chris Robshaw's omission from the British and Irish Lions squad.

Harlequins director of rugby Conor O'Shea has admitted his surprise at Warren Gatland's decision to omit Chris Robshaw from the British and Irish Lions squad.

Despite captaining England in the Six Nations, Robshaw was not selected by Gatland in his 37-man squad for the summer tour of Australia.

"He will get on with it like he always does - he missed out on the World Cup. Until you have Chris Robshaw in the group you are in, you don't know what you are missing," he told Sky Sports News.

"He has got a slight injury at the moment so we hope he is back next week for our semi-final.

"He captained the England team that beat the All Blacks, captained four wins in a row in the Six Nations, he won two man-of-the-match awards.

The tour gets underway on June 1.
