Brazil World Cup most talked-about event on Facebook in 2014

The World Cup in Brazil was the most talked-about event of 2014 on Facebook.

Facebook has revealed that the World Cup in Brazil was the most talked-about event of 2014.

The football tournament was discussed more times on the social networking website than the Ebola outbreak, the ALS ice bucket challenge and TV fantasy drama Game of Thrones.

American sports stars dominated the most talked-about athletes, with NBA player LeBron James, former baseball star Derek Jeter and undefeated boxer Floyd Mayweather Jr in the top three.

Barcelona star Lionel Messi led the way for footballers after coming fourth in the list of athletes, while Real Madrid hero Cristiano Ronaldo came ninth, one spot below Luis Suarez and two adrift of Everton and USA goalkeeper Tim Howard.
