Prosecutors to investigate identification of Ched Evans rape victim

Prosecutors have been asked to investigate whether any criminal offences were made in relation to the identification of Ched Evans's rape victim.

Attorney General Jeremy Wright QC has asked the Crown Prosecution Service to investigate any possible criminal offences that may have been committed during the identification of the victim involved in Ched Evans's rape case.

The former Sheffield United footballer was released from prison in October after serving half of a five-year sentence for raping a 19-year-old woman in a hotel.

The 25-year-old, who has struggled to find a new club to take him on following his release, maintains his innocence and has put his case forward to the Criminal Cases Review Commission.

Today, it has been revealed that the Attorney General has also asked North Wales police to look into whether the material served during the case proceedings was dealt with in the correct manner.

If not, there could be a contempt of court issue.
