Hugo Lloris arrested for drink driving ahead of Manchester United match

Tottenham Hotspur captain Hugo Lloris is charged with drink driving after being arrested ahead of his side's Premier League clash with Manchester United at Old Trafford.

Tottenham Hotspur captain Hugo Lloris has been arrested for drink driving ahead of his side's Premier League clash with Manchester United on Monday.

The 31-year-old is understood to have been stopped by police in his car in central London at around 2.20am on Friday morning.

Lloris subsequently failed a roadside breathalyser test before being taken to Charing Cross Police Station, where he spent around seven hours in custody.

The shot-stopper - who captained France to World Cup glory this summer - was then released on bail and will appear at Westminster Magistrates' Court on September 11.

"A man has been charged following a routine patrol stop in Gloucester Place, W1," read a statement from the Metropolitan Police.

"Hugo Lloris, 31, of East Finchley, was charged with drink driving on Friday, 24 August. He has been bailed to return to Westminster Magistrates' Court on Tuesday, 11 September."

It is unclear whether Lloris, who has started both of Tottenham's games so far this season, will be available for Monday's match at Old Trafford.
