Liverpool's Anfield stadium evacuated following security alert

Merseyside Police confirm that Liverpool's Anfield stadium had to be evacuated on Tuesday afternoon after concerns over a security breach.

Liverpool's Anfield stadium was evacuated on Tuesday afternoon following a reported security breach.

It is understood that a guided tour of the famous venue had to be cut short at 3pm after two men went missing on the grounds, although this is still unconfirmed.

A spokesman for Merseyside Police said in a statement: "Merseyside Police can confirm officers are in attendance following security concerns at Anfield Stadium today.

"As a precautionary measure, the club has evacuated the stadium and officers are now carrying out enquiries at the scene."

Anfield is due to host a League Cup fourth-round clash on Wednesday, with Bournemouth making the trip to face Jurgen Klopp's side.
