Valentino Rossi triumphs at Australian MotoGP

Valentino Rossi wins in Australia on his 250th MotoGP appearance, while world champion Marc Marquez and Briton Cal Crutchlow crash out in the latter stages.

Valentino Rossi claimed victory at an incident-packed Australian MotoGP after world champion Marc Marquez crashed out of the race in the latter stages.

Marquez held a lead of almost four seconds over his opponents before he span off the track late on to gift Rossi victory on his 250th GP appearance.

Cal Crutchlow rode well and was in second place until the penultimate lap, where the Briton lost concentration and crashed out.

Jorge Lorenzo capitalised on the mistake to finish in second, although the Spaniard is now in third place and eight points behind Rossi in the overall standings.

Bradley Smith, 23, came third to claim the first podium finish of his MotoGP career.
