Patrick Reed leads Humana Challenge by seven strokes

Patrick Reed hits a third successive nine-under 63 to take a seven-stroke lead at the Humana Challenge heading into the final round of action.

Patrick Reed has increased his lead to seven strokes at the Humana Challenge after the third round of action.

The 23-year-old American shot his third successive nine-under 63 on Saturday at La Quinta, California to finish at 27-under, breaking the PGA Tour record for lowest score under par in the first three rounds of a tournament in the process.

"Any time you set a record on the PGA Tour it means you're doing something right," The AP quotes him as saying. "Well, a lot of things right.

"But at the same time it doesn't matter if you have the 54-hole lead. All that matters at the end is at the end of Sunday."

He added: "Almost seems like I'm in a putting coma. The hole seems huge. It almost feels like I can't miss. It's interesting because when I do miss a putt, I get really frustrated because I almost feel like I should make it."

Charley Hoffman (66) and Brendon Todd (68) are tied for second place in the leaderboard heading into the fourth and final round of action on Sunday, while James Driscoll (66) is fourth at 19-under.
