Tom Watson believes that he can win a sixth Open Championship title at Muirfield.

Tom Watson has said that he is capable of winning a sixth Open Championship, despite his last success coming 30 years ago in the 1983 British Open.

The 63-year-old came close to winning The British Open in 2009, but lost out to fellow American Stewart Cink in a playoff at Turnberry.

"There is an element to this course that, because of how hard and fast it is, gives me a chance," Watson told Sky Sports News.

"I hit some good quality shots and I am going in tomorrow with an unsure but positive attitude, rather than an unsure but negative attitude.

"I haven't had enough time to confirm what I was doing today but I hit the ball on the clubface where I hadn't been hitting the ball solidly. When I start hitting the ball solidly I have a chance."

Watson won the third of his five British Open titles at Muirfield, where he tees off at 9am tomorrow.
