Pedro de la Rosa has said that Ferrari have a lot of work to do in the simulator ahead of the start of 2013 Formula 1 season.
The development driver was behind the wheel of the Italian team's new car when it caught fire during testing at Jerez earlier today.
The Spaniard told Sky Sports News: "We need to work. The whole point of having me here is to understand the car and help understand the simulation programme.
"You can imagine where we are, it's a lot of work to do. We know that, that's why they hired me. We are not where we want to be but I'm very comfortable with the people we have.
"The first step has to come from the hardware, otherwise you cannot catch up with the software."
The former McLaren test driver was hired by Ferrari to work primarily in their simulator.
