Preview: York City vs. Barnet - prediction, team news, lineups

Sports Mole previews Monday's National League clash between York City and Barnet, including predictions, team news and possible lineups.

Barnet will be bidding to stretch their unbeaten run in the National League to five matches when they travel to York City on Monday night.

The visitors are currently fifth in the table, nine points clear of eighth-placed Bromley, while York sit 17th, five points ahead of the relegation zone in the fifth tier of English football.

Match preview

York were promoted to the National League via last season's National League North playoffs, so their main aim for this season is to avoid relegation.

The Minstermen are currently 17th in the table, boasting 43 points from their 40 matches courtesy of a record of 11 wins, 10 draws and 19 defeats.

York are five points ahead of the relegation zone at the time of writing, and they will enter this match off the back of a goalless draw with Scunthorpe United on Tuesday night.

Michael Morton will remain in charge of the club for the remainder of the season, and he will be bidding to lead the team to their seventh home win of the campaign on Monday night.

York have not actually faced Barnet since a League Two clash in March 2016, which finished 1-1, while their last victory over Monday's opponents came in August 2012.

Barnet, meanwhile, will enter this match off the back of a 1-1 draw with Woking on Tuesday, with the result moving them onto 67 points from 39 matches.

The Bees are currently fifth in the table, some nine points ahead of eighth-placed Bromley, placing them in a strong position when it comes to finishing in the playoffs.

The only automatic promotion spot in the National League will be beyond them this season, but they will be determined to finish third, which would see them qualify for the semi-finals of the playoffs rather than the quarter-finals.

Dean Brennan's side will bring a four-game unbeaten run into this match, with their last loss in the league coming away to Dorking Wanderers on March 7.

Barnet have been in the National League since their relegation from League Two in 2018, and they have actually finished 22nd and 18th in their last two campaigns in the fifth tier.

Team News

York have no fresh injury concerns ahead of this match, and it would not be a shock to see Morton name the same XI that took to the field for the first whistle against Scunthorpe last time out.

Lenell John-Lewis has been in strong form for York this term, finding the back of the net on 12 occasions in the league, and he will again line up in an attacking position for the home side.

Meanwhile, there will be another start for 18-year-old Shaq Forde, who has seven National League goals to his name during the 2022-23 campaign.

Barnet, meanwhile, have not reported any fresh problems following their draw with Woking.

Harry Pritchard opened the scoring for the Bees on Tuesday night, and the 30-year-old, who has netted 12 league goals this term, will again feature in a midfield area.

Meanwhile, Nicke Kabamba will lead the line for the visitors, with the striker the fourth-highest goalscorer in the fifth tier of English football this season with 19.

York City possible starting lineup:
Whitley; Ellis, Whittle, Fallowfield, Crookes; McLaughlin, Duckworth, Oyson, John-Lewis; Rowe, Forde

Barnet possible starting lineup:
Walker; Collinge, Okimo, Cropper, Fernandez; Pritchard, Gorman, De Havilland, Wynter; Kabamba, Kanu

SM words green background

We say: York City 0-1 Barnet

Both of these teams are fighting for something at this stage of the campaign, and we are expecting it to be a close match on Monday night, but Barnet's superior quality should see them claim a huge three points.
