Preview: Wuhan vs. Shanghai Port - prediction, team news, lineups

Sports Mole previews Saturday's Chinese Super League clash between Wuhan and Shanghai Port, including predictions, team news and possible lineups.

Round six of the 2022 Chinese Super League season sees Wuhan and Shanghai Port renew hostilities at the Wuhan Sports Center Stadium.

Having both suffered defeats last time out, the sides will be looking to bounce back immediately when they square off this weekend.

Match preview

Shanghai Port saw their two-game winning run come to an end as they were beaten 2-1 by Wuhan Three Towns on Sunday at the Puwan Stadium.

Ivan Leko's men found themselves two goals down at half time thanks to strikes from Marcao and Hang Ren before pulling one back in the second half through Cherif Ndiaye.

The Red Eagles have slipped to 11th place in the league table and are now seven points adrift of the aforementioned Wuhan Three Towns at the top of the pile.

Coming up next is the challenge of an opposing side who have only won one of the last 10 meetings between the sides all the way back to 2013.

However, that only victory did come in the most recent encounter on June 4, when Saturday's visitors were left stunned following a 1-0 defeat.

Wuhan Yangtze River fell to a second straight defeat courtesy of a 2-0 loss against Shanghai Shenhua in Monday's clash at the Jinzhou Stadium.

Li Jinyu's men went behind to Jianrong Zhu's strike on the stroke of the interval after which Alexander N'Doumbou put the result beyond doubt in the 72nd minute.

With nine points from a possible 15 this term, the Han Army are seventh in the standings at the moment, three points clear of this weekend's opponents.

Having won just one of their last five home games on home turf, Saturday's hosts will need to get going in front of their fans if they are to improve on a largely underwhelming campaign last time out.

Team News

Bruno Viana struck the winning goal in the last edition of this fixture and the Brazilian will be hoping for a similar impact on Saturday.

Xu Dong missed his side's last outing due to a knock and it remains to be seen whether the defender will be fit enough to play a part in this one.

Chunxin Chen was subbed off after just 36 minutes in Shanghai's most recent match, making the 24-year-old a huge doubt for the trip to Wuhan.

Cherif Ndiaye was Chen's replacement and could be on course to feature right from the off this time around having got himself on the scoresheet last time out.

Wuhan possible starting lineup:
Wang; Liu, Viana, Li, Chen; Liu, Nie, Kajevic, Hu; Hu, Brown

Shanghai Port possible starting lineup:
Yan; Li, Wang, Zhang; Lu, Yang, Muzepper, Ndiaye; Liu, Feng, Paulinho

We say: Wuhan 1-2 Shanghai Port

Shanghai Port will surely be up for this one as they seek to exact revenge for a defeat in the last meeting between the teams. While we expect another close affair, we are backing the visitors to scrape a narrow win in the end.
