Wrexham will be looking to break an FA Cup record when they play host to Championship side Sheffield United in the fourth round on Sunday.

Wrexham will be bidding to break an FA Cup record when they square off against Sheffield United in the fourth round this weekend.

The National League outfit have been in the public eye ever since the recent takeover involving Hollywood stars Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney.

However, Phil Parkinson's side have matched the increased attention with higher-quality performances on the pitch, currently sitting three points clear at the top of the National League standings.

While priority is on earning a return to the EFL as soon as possible, Wrexham have also made headlines in the United Kingdom and United States with their run to the last 32 of the FA Cup.

The Welsh outfit have come through four ties to reach this stage of the competition, initially requiring a replay to edge out Blyth Spartans.

Since then, however, victories have been posted over Oldham Athletic, Farnborough and Coventry City in order to set up a showdown with Championship club Sheffield United in front of the television cameras on Sunday evening.

Wrexham will be bidding to end a 26-year absence from the fifth round after eventually being defeated in the quarter-finals during 1996-97.

They also have a chance to record an FA Cup first for a non-league side when it comes to scoring more than three goals in a certain number of matches.

Since the creation of the Football League in 1888, no non-league team have netted at least three goals in the first, second, third and fourth rounds.

Wrexham beat Oldham and Farnborough by 3-0 and 4-1 scorelines respectively before they edged out second-tier team Coventry City by a 4-3 scoreline on away territory at the start of the year.

Paul Mullin has played a key role during those matches, netting in each fixture and scoring a total of six goals, with seven coming in the competition when including the fourth qualifying round.

Should the forward contribute another effort versus the Blades, it will represent the first time since 1984-85 that a player from a non-league side has netted in the first, second, third and fourth rounds.
