Mick McCarthy says Wolves will do enough to retain top-flight status this season.

Mick McCarthy has said he is confident that Wolves will retain top-flight status this season.

The Midlands side had suffered a run of five successive league defeats but managed a vital win against fellow strugglers Wigan before the international break to lift them to 13th in the table.

"I know that we will win enough games - we will be fine," McCarthy told the club's website. "I never think about anybody else and I can't affect other people."

McCarthy added that he expects there will be a string of favourable fixtures at some point in the season where his side 'must pick points up'.

"Will we be able to win two or three on the bounce when we get fixtures where we can do it? I just think there are times in a season when you hit it and it works for you."

Wolves next face a trip to Everton when Premier League action resumes on Saturday, before taking on Chelsea at Stamford Bridge a week later.
