James McCarthy tells his Wigan Athletic teammates that they have "11 cup finals" to play between now and the end of the season.

Wigan Athletic midfielder James McCarthy has described his team's remaining Premier League fixtures as "11 cup finals".

Saturday's 3-0 victory away at fellow strugglers Reading moved the Latics out of the relegation zone.

Despite having expressed the importance of moving away from the bottom three, McCarthy has insisted that his teammates cannot afford to get carried away by their recent win.

"It's so important to get out of the bottom three and try and build on positive results like this one and we've got 11 games left to make sure that we do that," he told the club's official website.

"They're 11 cup finals and we want to try and get as high as we can in the league but we won't be getting carried away now and we'll get straight back to work to make sure we follow this through."

Next Saturday Wigan will face Liverpool at the DW Stadium.
