Wigan Athletic part company with Malky Mackay

Wigan Athletic confirm that they have parted company with manager Malky Mackay.

Wigan Athletic have confirmed that they have parted company with manager Malky Mackay after less than five months in charge.

Monday's 2-0 defeat at home to Derby County has left the Latics eight points adrift of safety in the Championship table with five games left to play this season.

Mackay's brief spell at the DW Stadium saw the team pick up 19 points from a possible 72. The club has yet to make a decision over his successor.

"This is a very difficult decision to make but I feel that for the long term future of the club, there needs to be a change now. I wish Malky all the best for the future," chairman David Sharpe told Wigan's official website.

Wigan continue their fight for Championship survival on April 10 when they make the trip to fellow strugglers Fulham.
