Roberto Martinez 'not been contacted by Everton over managerial job'

Roberto Martinez reportedly claims that he has not been contacted by Everton over potentially replacing David Moyes as Everton manager.

Wigan Athletic manager Roberto Martinez has claimed that he has had no contact from Everton about the possibility of taking over from David Moyes.

The Spaniard has become the frontrunner to take the reins at Goodison Park if Moyes is appointed as the new Manchester United boss following Sir Alex Ferguson's decision to retire at the end of the season.

The Scotsman is believed to be close to securing the position at Old Trafford following a meeting with Everton chairman Bill Kenwright, who said yesterday that a switch to United will be Moyes's own decision as he is out of contract in June.

Despite speculation surrounding Martinez, the Latics boss has claimed that he has not been approached by the Merseyside outfit and is solely focused on Saturday's FA Cup final against Manchester City.

"At this moment in time it would be a waste of time," Martinez said in a press conference. "The most important thing is to be as ready as we can on Saturday and then the two other finals we have in the league after that.

"It is the peak time for us. We want our fans to be proud of us and that is what we are fighting for. What goes around on the outside doesn't affect us, we won't lose any focus."

Meanwhile, reports have emerged claiming that Everton skipper Phil Neville is a contender to take over from Moyes.
