James Coppinger's late equaliser means that West Ham lose ground on Southampton at the Championship's summit.

West Ham United have extended their unbeaten run to seven games but will feel they have lost out after drawing with lowly Doncaster.

The Hammers had the ball in the net inside the opening minute but Ricardo Vaz Te's effort was ruled out because of a foul on Pascal Chimbonda.

Sam Allardyce's men continued to press and Carlton Cole smacked the crossbar minutes later before they took the lead in the 10th minute.

Vaz Te delivered a cross for James Tomkins, who saw his header saved by Carl Ikeme before the ball eventually fell to Kevin Nolan who poked home from close in.

Doncaster, after being dominated in the opening 45, came out a different side in the second and were on top for much of the half with El-Hadji Diouf orchestrating much of their improved play.

The Senegalese winger sent over a cross from the right in the 73rd minute which eventually found James Coppinger, who prodded home from six yards.

West Ham remain second but are now level on points with third-placed Reading and three points behind league leaders Southampton, while Doncaster remain 23rd with the point.
