Alex Song: 'I wanted Premier League return'

Midfielder Alex Song reveals that he joined West Ham United because he prioritised a return to the Premier League over playing Champions League football.

West Ham United midfielder Alex Song has insisted that it was an easy decision for him to leave Barcelona for the Hammers.

Song has moved to Upton Park on a season-long loan after falling down the pecking order at Camp Nou, but after his spell with Arsenal earlier in his career, the Cameroon international has revealed that he was keen to make his return to the Premier League.

The 27-year-old is quoted by The Sun as saying: "It was very easy. I wanted to come back to the Premier League and when the manager spoke to me, I was very happy to be part of the project.

"Some people said, 'Why don't you go to play for a club in the Champions League?', but I played Champions League for nine years. For me, it wasn't important.

"I've many years to play there again, I am confident. I want, this year, just to play for West Ham and do my best and then we'll see what's happening."

Song came on as a 62nd-minute substitute during West Ham's 2-2 draw at Hull City on Monday night.
