Sporting Lisbon have reportedly rejected a bid from West Bromwich Albion for midfielder William Carvalho.
Carvalho has regularly been linked with a move to the Premier League in recent transfer windows, with Arsenal understood to be long-time admirers of the 24-year-old.
However, Sporting have so far rebuffed any advances, and ESPN reports that the Baggies are the latest to see an approach turned down for the Portugal international, who helped his country to Euro 2016 glory this summer.
The report goes on to say that West Brom made an opening offer of £21m for Carvalho, significantly more than the club-record £13m sum they paid to sign Nacer Chadli on Monday.
Sporting are unwilling to sell their key players this summer having already lost Joao Mario to Inter Milan, while Islam Slimani and Adrien Silva are wanted by Leicester City.
