Bristol City boss Lee Johnson has reportedly been ruled out of the running to take over at West Bromwich Albion, leaving just Darren Moore and Dean Smith in the hunt.
The Baggies are on the lookout for a permanent successor to Alan Pardew and hope to have a new man in place as early as next week.
Sky Sports News reports that it is now a two-horse race for the position, with Brentford manager Smith rivalling Moore for the job.
Moore has remained coy on whether he wants to stay in The Hawthorns hotseat, having impressed during his month-long caretaker stint, while Smith recently suggested that he would rather remain at Griffin Park.
Should Moore miss out on the top job, West Brom chiefs are said to be determined for him to stay on in a coaching capacity.
