Alan Irvine delighted by Ben Foster stay at West Bromwich Albion

West Bromwich Albion boss Alan Irvine praises Ben Foster following the goalkeeper's decision to sign a new deal with the club.

West Bromwich Albion boss Alan Irvine has described Ben Foster's decision to sign a new contract as "fantastic news" for the club.

The goalkeeper, 31, penned a long-term extension with the Baggies on Tuesday afternoon.

Foster's new deal is due to keep him at The Hawthorns until summer 2018.

"This is fantastic news for everyone connected with the club as Ben's an extremely important player for us – both on and off the pitch," Irvine told the club's official website.

"This is a magnificent signing for the club. Ben is one of the best keepers in the country, which he showed when he played really well for England against Costa Rica at the World Cup.

"Ben is extremely professional, which is infectious in training, as he demands high standards of himself and others."

Foster joined West Brom from Birmingham City two years ago.
