West Bromwich Albion opt against Gareth McAuley appeal, Craig Dawson to serve ban

West Bromwich Albion will reportedly not appeal Gareth McAuley's red card against Manchester City, with the suspension set to be handed to Craig Dawson instead.

West Bromwich Albion have reportedly decided not to appeal against the red card they received in Saturday's 3-0 defeat at Manchester City.

Referee Neil Swarbrick dismissed Gareth McAuley in the second minute at the Etihad, but it was Craig Dawson who actually brought down Wilfried Bony to prevent a clear goalscoring opportunity.

Swarbrick admitted his mistake and apologised for his error in a post-match statement.

According to PA, the Football Association will switch the red card to Dawson, who will serve an automatic one-match suspension and miss their next Premier League encounter at home against Queens Park Rangers on April 4.
