Referee Neil Swarbrick has apologised to West Bromwich Albion for sending off the wrong player in their defeat against Manchester City today.
Swarbrick showed defender Gareth McAuley a red card in the second minute for a foul on Wilfried Bony, but replays show that Craig Dawson was the real offender.
A statement from Professional Game Match Officials Ltd, read: "The referee has confirmed the offence was caused by a different player, which should be addressed now as a case of mistaken identity. The referee has apologised for his error."
Man City went on to win the match 3-0, with Bony among the scorers.
