Half-Time Report: West Bromwich Albion ahead against Leicester City

Darren Fletcher and Craig Gardner score to give West Bromwich Albion a 2-1 lead over Leicester City in the Premier League.

West Bromwich Albion have opened up a 2-1 lead over bottom club Leicester City at The Hawthorns in the Premier League this afternoon.

The Baggies broke the deadlock less than 10 minutes into the tie when Darren Fletcher scrambled the ball over, although the referee needed the goalline technology to make sure that it was in.

The hosts continued to look the more likely as Chris Brunt looked for Saido Berahino from a throw-in, but the striker's long-range finish was well held by Kasper Schmeichel.

Despite West Brom's bright start, Leicester were back on level terms 20 minutes in when Leonardo Ulloa floated the ball into the box from a free kick, setting up strike partner David Nugent to rifle the ball in.

Tony Pulis's side quickly regained the lead though as Brunt crossed the ball in to tee up Craig Gardner for a volley, which deflected off Wes Morgan and into the back of the net.

Nugent tried to repay Ulloa with a through-ball late on as Leicester pushed to get back on level terms, but the striker blasted it high.
