USA and Wales will get their 2022 World Cup campaigns underway on Monday when they face off at the Ahmad bin Ali Stadium in Qatar.

The Group B showdown will be just the third time that the two sides have ever met before, and the first competitive showdown between them on Wales' return to the World Cup after a 64-year absence.

Rob Page's side will have to do something they have never done before if they are to kick off their campaign in dream fashion, having failed to win or even score in either of their previous two games against the Americans.

The most recent of those came in a friendly at Swansea City's Liberty Stadium just over two years ago when the two sides played out a forgettable 0-0 draw in front of an empty stadium due to the pandemic.

Wales will point to the fact that they were missing the likes of Gareth Bale and Aaron Ramsey for that contest, which should give them hope of offering more of an attacking threat when they renew acquaintances on Monday.

The only other previous meeting between the two sides came in May 2003 at the Spartan Stadium in San Jose, when USA ran out 2-0 winners over Mark Hughes's men.

Both goals came in the second half of that contest, with Landon Donovan breaking the deadlock from the penalty spot two minutes after the restart, and Eddie Lewis then doubling that advantage just before the hour mark.
