Toulouse edge out Lyon with 2-1 victory in Ligue 1

Toulouse edge to a 2-1 victory over Lyon in Ligue 1, with defender Jean-Daniel Akpa-Akpro and striker Wissam Ben Yedder on the scoresheet for the hosts.

Toulouse have grabbed a slender 2-1 victory over Lyon in Ligue 1 this evening thanks to goals from Jean-Daniel Akpa-Akpro and Wissam Ben Yedder.

Toulouse dominated from the off and some neat play between Ben Yedder and Martin Braithwaite almost proved enterprising, as the latter saw his stinging effort saved at the bottom corner of goal.

The hosts made their superiority count after 10 minutes when Akpa-Akpro latched on to Oscar Trejo's inventive through ball to tuck home into the bottom right corner.

Lyon failed to create much in the opening half, as Jordan Ferri flashed wide of the post from distance before reported Newcastle United target Alexandre Lacazette saw a smart attempt saved down low.

The visitors were put in further discomfort just before the break when Ben Yedder produced an unstoppable free kick which flew past a helpless Anthony Lopes and into the bottom corner.

Lyon pulled one back through Lacazette in the closing 15 minutes, but it proved too little too late as Toulouse secured three early-season points.
