Chairman Lee Power to take managerial charge of Swindon Town on temporary basis

Swindon Town chairman Lee Power will take up managerial duties on a temporary basis while the club search for a new full-time boss, it is confirmed.

Swindon Town have confirmed that chairman Lee Power will take charge of the team following the departure of Mark Cooper.

The Robins parted company with the 46-year-old on the weekend following their 2-0 defeat at Millwall.

Cooper spent two-and-a-half years at the County Ground, in which time he guided the club to the League One playoff final at Wembley where they were beaten heavily by Preston North End.

A slow start to this season has left Swindon just one place above the drop zone, however, forcing the club to take action and re-shuffle the backroom staff.

"Unfortunately, performances and results this term have not been as good as the club had hoped for with the current squad," a statement on Town's official website read.

"The Chairman, Lee Power thought it was time to make a change and informed Mark of his decision on Saturday night after the defeat at Millwall.

"Lee will take temporary charge of the team but will definitely not be the club's next permanent manager. The club have already started drawing up a shortlist and plan to have a manager in place by the end of the month."

Swindon return to action on Tuesday night when they play host to Oldham Athletic.
