Swansea City stop the rot with victory over West Bromwich Albion

Swansea City pick up their first win in eight Premier League games to move out of the relegation zone, beating West Bromwich Albion 1-0 at the Liberty Stadium.

Swansea City have ended their seven-match winless streak with a 1-0 victory over West Bromwich Albion at the Liberty Stadium this afternoon.

Caretaker manager Alan Curtis oversaw his first win in charge of the club courtesy of Ki Sung-yueng's early strike as the Swans climbed out of the relegation zone in the Premier League.

The goal arrived inside 10 minutes, and it was a scrappy one for the hosts as Angel Rangel's strike from the right side of the box hit the post and rebounded off the head of Boaz Myhill in the West Brom net.

The keeper failed to collect the ball when trying to recover the situation, and Ki was more alert than those around him to steal in and poke the ball over the line from close range.

That proved to be the standout moment of a quiet first half, although Swansea were almost able to double their advantage three minutes before the interval when Jefferson Montero found space inside the box, only to see his shot blocked.

The visiting Baggies had to wait until the 52nd minute for their first real sight of goal as Rickie Lambert rose highest in the area before testing Lukasz Fabianski with a downward header.

Lambert was the threat again 15 minutes from time as West Brom went in search of an equaliser, but this time the former Liverpool striker fired narrowly wide of the target from close range.

The result means that West Brom are now just three points clear of the relegation zone following a five-match winless streak, while Swansea have won for just the second time since August.
