Garry Monk: "Fearless" Modou Barrow can shine at Swansea City

Swansea City manager Garry Monk insists that he wants striker Modou Barrow to continue playing with freedom in order to become a regular at the club.

Garry Monk has claimed that striker Modou Barrow still has a lot to learn if he is to become a first-team regular at Swansea City.

The 22-year-old has made a big impression in the Swans' development team in recent weeks, although he has been restricted to just two substitute appearances in the senior set-up since joining the club in the summer.

However, having made an instant impact from the bench in his side's 2-1 win over Arsenal prior to the international break, Monk rewarded the 22-year-old with a 13-minute spell against champions Manchester City last time out.

"He's fearless and you often get that with young players," Wales Online quotes the Swansea manager as saying. "I want him to go out there, enjoy it and play with freedom.

"Obviously, he has a responsibility without the ball, but with the ball he can play with freedom. I think he's shown that in the games he's had.

"He's not a senior player. He's still got to learn a lot, but he's earned the right to be with the first team. That's the way it should be for young players. He's done very well in his two substitute appearances, he's contributed."

The Welsh outfit are currently seventh in the Premier League table following their weekend defeat at Man City.
