Sunderland manager Paolo Di Canio is reportedly closing in on his first signing as Black Cats boss by agreeing a deal with Lazio for defender Modibo Diakite.
The 26-year-old, whose contract at Di Canio's former club is due to expire, has been linked with the Premier League outfit for some time.
It is believed that Di Canio is close to strengthening his defensive options after coming to an agreement with the Serie A outfit over the signing of Diakite, according to Sky Sports News.
Meanwhile, reports have claimed that the former Swindon Town boss is keen to recruit Inter Milan's scout Valentino Angeloni.
