John O'Shea thrilled by Sunderland triumph

Sunderland captain John O'Shea expresses his delight after seeing his team pick up their first win of the season against Stoke.

Sunderland captain John O'Shea has expressed his delight following the team's first victory of the season.

The Black Cats ended a winless run of six matches on Saturday as they beat Stoke City 3-1 at the Stadium of Light.

O'Shea has now called on his teammates to build on their triumph over the Potters and climb further up the Premier League table.

"It was important to get the win. We've had a few good performances in the draws we've had but thankfully we were able to get the three points," the defender told the club's official website.

"We could have been a little bit more clinical in the second half but it is a fantastic three points for us and it is something we can build on."

Sunderland are back in action on October 18 when they travel to high-flying Southampton in the league.
