Stoke City boss Mark Hughes: 'Charlie Adam can be effective for 90 minutes'

Stoke City manager Mark Hughes believes that Charlie Adam has proved his fitness in recent games and can still be effective over 90 minutes.

Stoke City manager Mark Hughes has insisted that Charlie Adam has proved that he can be effective for an entire game, despite questions over his fitness.

The midfielder levelled Saturday's 1-1 draw with Sunderland to earn the Potters a point at the Britannia.

Hughes has admitted that he would regularly look to substitute Adam in the closing stages of a match, but now, the coach believes that the 29-year-old has plenty more to give.

"In the past you get to about 65 or 70 minutes and you think his effect on the game was possibly waning, then look to make a change and Charlie was the obvious choice, but that's not the case now," The Sentinel quotes Hughes as saying.

"People questioned his weight, but that's never been an issue, it's just his shape and body makeup, and he knows how to manage himself through games."

Adam joined Stoke from Liverpool in 2012.
