Tottenham Hotspur want to open talks with Argentine goalkeeper Paulo Gazzaniga over a new contract, according to a report.

Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly preparing to open talks with Argentine goalkeeper Paulo Gazzaniga over a new contract at the club.

The 27-year-old had only made four Premier League appearances for Spurs before the start of the 2019-20 campaign, which he also entered as back-up to Hugo Lloris.

The France international has been missing since October due to an elbow injury, however, meaning that Gazzaniga has been pressed into action as the number one over the last couple of months.

As it stands, the South American will see his contract with Spurs expire at the end of the 2021-22 campaign, but according to Football Insider, the capital giants are ready to open talks over a new deal.

The report claims that Gazzaniga can expect to receive a rise in wages under the proposed new agreement as he is currently one of the lowest-paid members of the first-team squad.

The stopper has started Tottenham's last 13 matches in all competitions, but he has only kept one clean sheet in the Premier League during the 2019-20 campaign.

Jose Mourinho's side are back in Premier League action away to Wolverhampton Wanderers on Sunday.
