Tottenham Hotspur have no plans to convert Timo Werner's loan move from RB Leipzig into a permanent deal, according to a report.

Tottenham Hotspur currently have no plans to convert Timo Werner's loan into a permanent deal this summer, according to a report.

With Son Heung-min on Asian Cup duty and Ivan Perisic departing for Hajduk Split for the remainder of the season, Tottenham made it their mission to bolster their attacking ranks this month.

Ange Postecoglou's options have also been thinned by knee injuries to Alejo Veliz and Manor Solomon, and the Lilywhites quickly struck a deal to bring ex-Chelsea man Werner back to the Premier League.

Tottenham fended off apparent interest from Manchester United to the 27-year-old's signature, and he has made back-to-back starts for Postecoglou's side, providing an assist on his debut in a 2-2 Premier League draw with admirers Man United.

Werner could not contribute in a 1-0 FA Cup loss to Manchester City on Friday, but he impressed with an effervescent display nonetheless, and Tottenham have the option to buy the German for approximately £15m this summer.

However, Football Insider claims that the Lilywhites are currently not inclined to keep Werner on the books beyond the end of the season, meaning that he will head back to RB Leipzig as things stand.

The report claims that Tottenham could have a change of heart if Werner sets the world alight over the next few months, but the consensus is that he will return to Germany once the campaign is done and dusted.

Werner's contract with RB Leipzig does not expire until the summer of 2026, but he has failed to recapture the form he showed before his initial move to the Premier League in 2020, when Chelsea paid £45.3m for his services.

The 27-year-old is one of two new faces to arrive at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium this month alongside former Genoa defender Radu Dragusin, but Spurs could dip their toe into the market once more before Thursday's deadline.

A new midfielder is supposedly still being targeted by Postecoglou, who is without Africa Cup of Nations pair Yves Bissouma and Pape Sarr, while Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg is wanted by both Juventus and Lyon.

Spurs have long been linked with a move for Chelsea's Conor Gallagher, who is out of contract in 2025, but the Blues apparently want a mammoth £80m to consider a sale in the final knockings of the January window.

In addition, the Lilywhites are understood to have conceded defeat in the race to sign Club Brugge winger Antonio Nusa, who has instead chosen Brentford as his next destination.

The 18-year-old supposedly receives assurances that he would be a regular Premier League starter at the Gtech Community Stadium next season, but Tottenham could not offer him such guarantees.

The Lilywhites are back in top-flight action against the Bees on Wednesday evening, and Postecoglou's men enter the midweek London derby sat fifth in the table, three points behind Manchester City, Arsenal and Aston Villa.
