Mauricio Pochettino hints at domestic Tottenham Hotspur transfer approach

Tottenham Hotspur head coach Mauricio Pochettino suggests that the club will look at players already in England if they try to sign a back-up striker in January.

Tottenham Hotspur head coach Mauricio Pochettino has suggested that any January transfer activity the club engages in will be focussed on players already in England.

Spurs are believed to be chasing a striker to provide cover for Harry Kane and although the North London side have been linked with Marseille's Michy Batshuayi and Daniel Didavi of Stuttgart, Pochettino believes that it is easier when a new arrival is used to the Premier League.

"Always it is difficult to bring in players from outside [England]," PA quotes the Argentine as saying.

"For them to adapt in the Premier League, to the culture, the language - it is difficult to bring in players from outside. You need to take the right profile.

"I prefer to take players from England first. If we have the option to take players from here, I prefer it - from the Premier League, or the Championship or League One."

Pochettino's comments suggest that a move for reported targets Saido Berahino or Ayoze Perez could be on the cards, with England international Kane Spurs' only recognised out-and-out striker.
