New Tottenham Hotspur manager Andre Villas-Boas is understood to want Jermain Defoe to stay with the club.
The 29-year-old was thought to be keen to leave White Hart Lane after a limited number of first-team opportunities under previous boss Harry Redknapp.
However, Villas-Boas now hopes to keep the England international as he looks to put his mark on the team, according to the Daily Mail.
Defoe's 17 goals last season helped the striker earn a place in Roy Hodgson's England squad for Euro 2012.
