Spurs chairman Daniel Levy insists the club want to remain in the N17 area but that public money must be spent on improving the infrastructure before they build a new stadium.

Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy has said that the club want to remain in the N17 area if they are to build a new stadium.

The club recently failed in an attempt to make the new Olympic arena their future home.

However, the 49-year-old stressed that public money must be spent on improving the surrounding area before any work will begin.

Spurs feel that they need a new stadium in order to increase income so they can compete with their rivals.

"A new stadium continues to be central to delivering our ambitions for this club," said Levy.

"At this stage we are encouraged by the level of support there is for our plans and for giving the area of Tottenham the focus and attention it deserves."

Harry Redknapp's side are currently fourth in the Premier League with a game in-hand on all the sides around them.
