Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp admits he is as keen as ever to become England manager, despite admitting the job is a "poisoned chalice".

Spurs boss Harry Redknapp has said he is still enthusiastic about being England manager one day but has admitted that the job is a "poisoned chalice".

The 64-year-old is favourite to take over when Fabio Capello leaves the post after next year's European Championships.

Asked whether the job is a poisoned chalice, Redknapp said: "Yes. [But] it would be difficult for any Englishman to turn the job down. I'm not pushing myself for the job; whoever gets offered the job, if they're an Englishman, it would be hard to say no because it's your country."

Redknapp's side travel to PAOK Salonika for their opening Europa League fixture tonight.

He plans to make 10 changes to his side from the one that beat Wolves 2-0 on Saturday.
