Emmanuel Adebayor 'needed sign from God' to leave Tottenham Hotspur

Emmanuel Adebayor reportedly turned down a move from Tottenham Hotspur to Aston Villa this summer on the advice of his pastor.

Tottenham Hotspur striker Emmanuel Adebayor turned down a move to Aston Villa earlier this summer because he felt that he needed a sign from God that it was the correct move, according to a report.

The Togolese forward had been linked with a move away from White Hart Lane all summer after starting just once in the Premier League for Spurs last season. He has also failed to feature so far in the current campaign.

According the The Telegraph, the 31-year-old turned down potential summer moves, including a deal which would have seen him reunited with former Spurs boss Tim Sherwood at Villa Park, on the advice of his pastor.

It is also alleged that Adebayor rejected Tottenham's deadline-day offer to cancel the remaining year of his reported £100,000-a-week contract, instead demanding that the club pay the rest of his deal up front and in full.
