Combined XI: Manchester City vs. Tottenham Hotspur

Ahead of Saturday's Premier League game between Manchester City and Tottenham Hotspur, Sports Mole selects its strongest combined XI from the two squads.

Manchester City and Tottenham Hotspur do battle in the Premier League on Saturday evening, with both clubs having begun their campaign with three points.

City, who are looking to win their third top-flight crown in a row, were hugely impressive in their 5-0 victory against West Ham United at the London Stadium.

Later that day, Spurs overcame a show start to register a 3-1 success over newly-promoted Aston Villa, who had led until the 73rd minute.

Here, Sports Mole has selected the best possible XI from the players who are available for the highly-anticipated showdown at the Etihad Stadium.

Combined XI: MNC vs. TOT

While Hugo Lloris has earned Spurs points on his own in the past, we cannot ignore the record of Ederson, who has established himself as one of the top goalkeepers in the world since moving to City last year.

Pep Guardiola also has three representatives in the defence, with Kyle Walker, John Stones and Aymeric Laporte all getting the nod over their respective counterparts.

However, City's weakest area of the pitch is at left-back, leaving us to select England international Danny Rose over Oleksandr Zinchenko, who was less than convincing against the Hammers.

Despite both clubs being stacked with options in the middle of the park, selecting a formidable trio proved relatively simple, with Rodri a no-brainer for the defensive role.

Given the security provided by the Spaniard, we can afford to deploy playmakers on either side, meaning that Kevin De Bruyne and Christian Eriksen are picked over the likes of David Silva, Harry Winks and Tanguy Ndombele.

That has led us to select Bernardo Silva on the right-hand side, given that the Portugal international is more comfortable with assisting from a defensive standpoint than an out-and-out winger.

The form of Raheem Sterling means that the Englishman is guaranteed a spot on the opposite flank, leaving us to pick one of Gabriel Jesus, Sergio Aguero and Harry Kane down the centre.

At a time when Guardiola will have his own doubts regarding who to select out of Jesus and Aguero, Kane gets the nod as a result of his ruthless late double against Villa.
