Maya Yoshida 'staying at Southampton'

Southampton defender Maya Yoshida will stay with the club this summer despite strong interest from Saudi Arabian outfit Al-Hilal, according to a report.

Southampton defender Maya Yoshida will reportedly stay with the club this summer despite strong interest from Al-Hilal.

The Saudi Arabian champions were said to be hopeful of signing the 29-year-old this summer, with the Riyadh-based outfit registering their interest earlier this month.

However, according to the Daily Echo, Yoshida is settled in England, and is not currently interested in a move away from the club that he joined in the summer of 2012.

Yoshida made 28 appearances in all competitions for Southampton during the 2017-18 season, and is tied to his current club until the summer of 2020.

The experienced centre-back will represent Japan at the 2018 World Cup.
