Mark Hughes 'close to Southampton deal'

Mark Hughes will sign a new three-year contract with Southampton in the coming days, according to a report.

Mark Hughes will reportedly sign a new three-year contract with Southampton in the coming days.

Hughes guided the Saints to Premier League survival after replacing Mauricio Pellegrino as head coach in March.

Last week, Southampton chairman Ralph Krueger confirmed that negotiations were underway to extend Hughes's tenure at St Mary's, while the 54-year-old also recently revealed a desire to stay with the club.

According to Sky Sports News, Hughes is close to penning a three-year contract with the Saints, which will run until 2021.

Southampton ultimately finished the 2017-18 Premier League season in 17th position - three points clear of 18th-placed Swansea City despite losing to Manchester City on the final weekend of the campaign.
