Southampton are reportedly in advanced talks with former Lyon boss Claude Puel over the vacant managerial position at St Mary's.
The Saints have been on the lookout for a new boss since losing Ronald Koeman to Everton earlier this month.
Manuel Pellegrini, Rudi Garcia, Vitor Pereira and Eddie Howe have all been linked with the job but, according to The Telegraph, Puel is now the clear frontrunner to take charge.
Southampton are said to have held positive initial discussions with Puel, who has previously won the French League title at AS Monaco and reached the last four of the Champions League with Lyon.
It is claimed that a three-year deal is likely to be agreed in the coming days, with Southampton players due to return to the south coast for preliminary fitness testing on Wednesday.
