David McGoldrick praises Southampton's academy

Former Southampton striker David McGoldrick praises the club's academy for the number of players that they have produced.

Ipswich Town striker David McGoldrick has hailed the work done by Southampton's academy over the last few years.

As well as McGoldrick, the likes of Gareth Bale, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Theo Walcott and Nathan Dyer have all progressed through the ranks with Southampton.

"A lot of the players from that game have gone on to get experience in the Premiership and Championship," McGoldrick told the East Anglian Daily Times. "It was a great academy that really helped me develop."

The latest player to break through the youth team, Luke Shaw, recently signed a new contract at St Mary's Stadium.
