Preview: Sheffield Wednesday vs. Charlton Athletic - prediction, team news, lineups

Sports Mole previews Sheffield Wednesday's Championship meeting with Charlton Athletic on Wednesday, with predictions, team news and lineups.

Sheffield Wednesday welcome Charlton Athletic to Hillsborough on Wednesday in a meeting between two sides that have struggled for form in the Championship of late.

A winless run in the league stretching back to early January has damaged Wednesday's promotion chances, while Charlton sit just five points clear of the relegation places.

Sheffield Wednesday have been in freefall in recent weeks and have picked up just three points from their last seven Championship matches.

Their last win came away to local rivals Leeds United on January 11 and took them into the playoff spots, but they are now 11 points adrift of sixth-placed Preston North End.

The loss of top scorer Steven Fletcher coincided with their poor run of form, but with the Scotland international back from injury and Fernando Forestieri scoring his first goal since November in the 3-3 draw with Birmingham City on Saturday, the signs of improvement are there.

However, the Owls have managed just six home league wins all season and with four defeats in their last five at Hillsborough, Garry Monk will be coming under increasing pressure to turn things around.

Charlton, on the other hand, have seen their form improve of late with three wins in their last five league matches.

However, they remain in danger of the drop and with fixtures against some of their immediate rivals on the horizon, it is important that they continue picking up points.

Their 3-1 win over Luton Town ensured they maintained their gap to some of the sides below them, but with Barnsley and Wigan Athletic in form they are not out of the woods yet.

The Addicks have also managed just three wins away from home all season and lost 3-1 when these two sides met at The Valley in November.

Team News

Fletcher could be in line for his first start since early January after he made his return from injury against Birmingham.

Midfielder Massimo Luongo could also make his return following injury, although he remains a doubt.

Elsewhere, Adam Reach and Moses Odubajo have been ruled out.

Charlton are still without influential midfielders Darren Pratley and Jonny Williams as they continue to struggle with ankle and back injuries respectively.

Sam Field, Lewis Page and Jonathan Leko are also out.

Sheffield Wednesday possible starting lineup:
Dawson; Iorfa, Lees, Borner, Palmer; Murphy, Bannan, Lee, Harris; Fletcher, Forestieri

Charlton Athletic possible starting lineup:
Phillips; Matthews, Sarr, Lockyer, Doughty; Davis, Cullen, Lapslie; Oztumer; Taylor, Bonne

We say: Sheffield Wednesday 2-1 Charlton Athletic

Following a wretched run of recent form, Sheffield Wednesday showed signs of life in their last match against Birmingham and should build on that with a win against a struggling Charlton team.
