Joe Wildsmith proud of Sheffield Wednesday League Cup run

Sheffield Wednesday keeper Joe Wildsmith believes that his side should be pleased with their run in the Capital One Cup despite their exit in the quarter-finals.

Sheffield Wednesday keeper Joe Wildsmith has said that his side should be proud of their run in the Capital One Cup following their exit in the quarter-finals.

The Owls took the scalps of Premier League opposition twice on their run to the last eight by beating Newcastle United and Arsenal, but their charge was ended by Stoke City in a 2-0 loss at the Britannia Stadium.

Wildsmith told the club's official website: "It's been a long while since we've had a cup run and the fans have really got behind it. We've seen some good games this season, particularly against Newcastle and Arsenal but last night was one step too many.

"We've got memories to keep forever because we have upset a lot of odds to get to where we did.

"Coming up each round against strong teams from the Premier League, it was likely that it would come to an end but we wanted to ride it for as long as possible. The final bit wasn't quite there and on another day it might have been."

Wednesday are back in action in the Championship on Sunday against Derby County.
