Oguchi Onyewu joins Sheffield Wednesday

Sheffield Wednesday sign Oguchi Onyewu on a free transfer until the end of the season.

American international centre-back Oguchi Onyewu has joined Sheffield Wednesday on a free transfer shortly after leaving fellow Championship side Queens Park Rangers.

Onyewu joined Rangers in October, but was released without having made a first-team appearance for them, and has now signed a short-term deal with the Owls.

"Sheffield Wednesday have signed American international defender Oguchi Onyewu on a free transfer," the club said in a statement. "The towering stopper has signed a short term contract that runs until the end of the current campaign."

Onyewu has scored six goals in 68 appearances for the USA.
