Saudi Arabia winger Salem Al-Dawsari says that he is very proud to have scored in his side's 2-1 victory over Egypt on Monday.

Saudi Arabia midfielder Salem Al-Dawsari has said that he was very proud to score for his side in the World Cup in their 2-1 victory over Egypt on Monday.

The two Group A sides clashed in Volgograd as Al-Dawsari scored a 95th-minute goal to earn Saudi Arabia their first World Cup win in 11 games.

Juan Antonio Pizzi's team finished third in the group, meaning that the last-minute winner was their final moment in Russia as Uruguay and Russia qualify for the knockout stages.

"We played a big game, we managed to achieve victory, an honourable victory," insisted Al-Dawsari.

"I was able to register my name in the list of players who scored in the World Cup and this is a matter of pride.

"We were hoping to qualify but the first match did not live up to our expectations and we did not deserve to lose the second game."

Egypt failed to pick up a point in all three of their World Cup fixtures, leaving them without a win in the last seven tournaments.
