Real Madrid are reportedly prepared to move for Bayern Munich forward Robert Lewandowski after missing out on Kylian Mbappe.
Los Blancos went to great lengths to win the race for the France international, only for the striker to extend his stay at Paris Saint-Germain.
The La Liga champions will now move onto other targets, another frontman seemingly at the top of their agenda with stronger competition required for Karim Benzema.
According to Defensa Central, Real are ready to meet Bayern's asking price for Lewandowski, said to be marginally below €50m (£42.4m).
Although Bayern has frequently insisted that the legendary Poland international will see out the remainder of his contract at the Allianz Arena, Barcelona are known to want to sign the 33-year-old this summer.
As it stands, it has been claimed that Lewandowski's only desire is to move to Camp Nou, but that was before Mbappe opted to shun the advances of Real.
A potential stumbling block is Benzema's untouchable status at the Santiago Bernabeu, something which would leave Lewandowski on the substitutes' bench unless Carlo Ancelotti made the surprising move to use two veteran centre-forwards.
