Zidane: 'Transfer fees will continue rising'

Zinedine Zidane predicts that players will swap clubs for fees in the region of €400m within the next 10 years following Neymar's high-profile move to Paris Saint-Germain.

Real Madrid manager Zinedine Zidane has predicted that the €400m (£356m) transfer barrier will be broken within the next decade.

The whole complexion of the summer and winter windows changed last year when superstar forward Neymar swapped Barcelona for Paris Saint-Germain in a £198m deal.

Neymar's switch smashed the previous record - the £89m that took Paul Pogba to Manchester United 12 months prior - and Zidane believes that it is just a matter of time before the Brazilian's fee is doubled.

"I think I cost €70-72m back in my day. I thought that was crazy back then," he told the assembled press on Friday. "Maybe in another 10 years it will be €400m, or even before that. But Neymar is a very good player. He could play at any club."

Zidane became the world's costliest player in 2011 when joining Madrid from Juventus for £48m.
